In 2014, SMA led the US inverter market, accounting for 24% of all inverters sold in the US. During the same period, Advanced Energy ranked third, accounting for 17% of U.S. inverter sales.
This is stated in the latest research report from GTM Research, “PV Inverter Market Share and Forecast 2015.” The three largest suppliers—SMA, ABB and Advanced Energy—account for 59% of all inverters sold in the United States.
“Advanced Energy’s exit from the market creates an immediate opportunity for all U.S. commercial and utility-scale inverter manufacturers,” solar energy analyst Scott Moskowitz wrote of the company’s impending closure. “We believe these markets represent a combined 11.7 GW of DC opportunity in 2015 and 2016.”
Market share shifted sharply in the first quarter of 2015 due to uncertainty over Advanced Energy’s ownership situation and strong momentum following SolarEdge’s March IPO, the report noted.
SolarEdge narrowly overtook Enphase to become the leading provider in the US residential market in the first quarter of 2015, according to the report.
