Jones County VFD Maintenance Day Gets Busy With Community Help

JONES COUNTY, Miss. (WDAM) – It was a busy Saturday morning for the Calhoun Volunteer Fire Department, performing routine maintenance work with the help of local residents.
According to the Jones County Fire Commission, CFVD firefighters said their work that day consisted of checking equipment and testing hoses. This work is done at West Jones High School and assisting participants in the 18th District Court Community Service Program.
In the midst of those efforts, a call came in at 9:27 a.m. Saturday about a fire at 419 Shady School Road.
Firefighters immediately left the high school and upon arrival found the one-story mobile home surrounded by thick smoke, raging flames visible through the windows, and about half of the home destroyed.
One resident said he reported a problem with a circuit breaker in his home last week.
While those departments were working to extinguish the fire on Shady School Road, another call came in at 10:04 a.m. about a fire on 149 Mississippi 529 in the Hebron area.
Firefighters from the Calhoun Fire Department, as well as firefighters from Hebron and Pleasant Ridge, arrived on scene and found smoke visible from the left side of another single-wide mobile home.
The rest of the house was not damaged by the fire, although the rest of the house did suffer smoke damage.
